Sarah Rosenhaus, principal owner of Sarah Rosenhaus Interior Design (SRID), based in Santa Monica, Calif., believes each home should tell a story of a well-traveled life. “We create spaces that are livable, yet elegant and inviting, and that present the client with items and ideas that are unexpected. Bringing in natural elements and items that have organic qualities are very important to us.
We strive to have our spaces tell the story of our clients and their life,” she said. Using a balanced design approach to each design project, SRID begins each project by interviewing clients as a way of getting to know them.
“Designing a home is such an intimate process and, usually, clients are complete strangers. We ask for inspiration images, color preferences, a favorite sweater — anything to help us get a sense of who our clients are. From there, we usually start pinning inspiration images while creating floorplans and layouts,” Rosenhaus said.
“Design is about evolution so we are always looking at how to blend and balance the old with the new.” These days, SRID focuses on inspiring projects that make one feel like they’re on vacation. One project recently designed by Rosenhaus fits this ideal perfectly. We asked her to fill us in on the project details: We were engaged to work on the project by a former client of ours (we did her office and previous home) during the construction phase.
Burn mac dmg on windows. The house was a full renovation, with the main part of the house being completely rebuilt. We were engaged not only to decorate but to design the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as make all material and color selections, etc.
We also designed the garden and all exterior spaces. It was very important to our client to maintain a connection from the indoor spaces to the outdoor spaces. They have four teenage children so there are many friends coming and going, and the house is always full with activity. Our client wanted a crisp, clean space that felt open and modern, connected to nature and a little whimsical, while still being durable and able to handle the wear and tear of four teens and their friends. The project took about a year to complete, and the clients are very pleased with the outcome.
